A 5-minute drive from the Little River township will take you to the entrance of the reserve, just along from the campground. This native forest loop walk takes approximately 20 minutes or you can follow on from the end of the forest walk up the Okuti Track all the way to the hill top which is roughly 2 hours each way.
Walk it, hike it (or bike it). The Little River Rail Trail from the historic Railway Station building to Motukarara is a return trip of approximately 46kms that can be comfortably cycled in a day, or can be walked one way.
The Wairewa Pa Road Walk is a leisurely 40-minute stroll that’s pushchair-friendly and packed with local history, including a stop at the Little River Earthquake Memorial. Round trip approximately 40 minutes and pushchair friendly.
For those seeking more of a challenge, the Te Oka Reserve Track offers a 10km hike with stunning views, while the Saddle Hill track is a moderate three-kilometre walk with equally rewarding scenery. The road to both tracks is steep but almost fully sealed. If you’re towing, leave the caravan in town, as big rigs might find the road too narrow, but those in small and mid-sized RVs should be fine.
